Rest Up

If I had to describe myself in one word, I would say: BUSY. I'm a busy body and I like to keep it that way. I think that if I ever got a day off from personal and professional responsibilities, I would have a nervous breakdown from not knowing how to act.

I don't have an average job (which I could not be more thankful for) so there is no such thing as "leaving work" for me. My other not-so-average job is my blog. I try to stay consistent on here, and for those of you thinking blogging is easy... it... is... NOT. I have to create illustrations, take time to style, shoot, edit, write, SEO that shit, and reply to e-mails. All of which I don't get paid to do, but I LOVE to do.

Did I mention I have been in a relationship for a couple years? I know what you're thinking, "why does that matter with being busy?" I have to make sure I'm giving myself enough time to enjoy my partner's company and do things that we're both interested in. That can get difficult if you're both working 30 hours a day with only 24 hours available.

Aside from all that, I have two dogs (Rocky the Shih-Tzu, and Marvin the Pug) that act more so like toddlers. Marvin is only 5 months old so he's the wildest one that I have absolutely no time-off with. I absolutely love that they keep me entertained, but I wouldn't mind if they decided to sleep for 14 hours straight while I sat at my computer.

That's a glimpse of what happens on an average day in my life. However, all of that has been greatly intensified lately with the holidays. I have my own family and my boyfriend's family to plan around for gatherings (by the way they don't all live in town by the way). I have to make a list of what to get everyone... wait I have to get a tree too... oh and what the heck am I making for Friendsgiving?! WAIT AM I HOSTING THAT AGAIN THIS YEAR? OH and also my parked car got rear ended by a silly driver so I have to make time to give up my car for a week of repairs... do I need to get a rental? My friend who has been stationed in Hawaii is returning to town for the holidays so I have to figure out when to see him! OH MY GOSH WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME I WASHED MY HAIR?!

*hyperventilates*

The older I get, the more stressful the holidays become for me. I miss just showing up to eat and open presents. How do other adults do it? How does everyone look so well put together and glittery? This can't just be me... right? Maybe I'm not alone in this.

If you're also feeling like you're being buried alive under endless to-do lists lately, just know, you're not the only one. We'll get through this. Screw that 3 hour dessert recipe you found on Pinterest. Go buy donuts... people will eat that too.

We have to learn to say no, cross off things that aren't really necessary to do, and get some rest
